STEP2: Move the map until the orange marker is at your desired drop-off location and press "Set Dropoff." STEP 3: Review the ride offer in the proposal screen (you may receive several proposals with different ETAs and different ride options). Select the one that works best for you and press "Book This Ride." All the details, including exact pick up location (remember it may not be where you booked) and information on the car picking you up, will then be displayed.

Sweet! You’ve just booked a Via ride.

Where do I wait for my Via?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

After you book a ride, the app will display the pick-up location where the vehicle will meet you.

As we are a corner-to-corner service, your actual pick-up spot may differ from where you asked to be picked up. It’s usually the corner closest to the pick-up location you requested, but you may be asked to walk a few blocks. Sometimes, the app will give you the address or business name at your pick-up spot to help you find it. Either way, the exact pick up location will always be displayed in the app.

SC_-_WHERE_DO_I_WAIT.jpeg

Make sure you’re at the pick-up spot when the vehicle arrives! The app will count down the minutes to your vehicle’s arrival, and we’ll send you a text when the vehicle is two minutes away and again when it arrives. For assistance, you can send a chat by clicking "Get Help" here: https://via.app.link and our Live Support team will help out. Additionally, you can contact the driver partner at any time directly through the app by pressing the small green phone icon located on the right, at the bottom of the screen.

Remember: Via is a community, and you’re sharing your ride with other members. Keeping them waiting results in stink-eyes, and if you’re more than 60 seconds late, the vehicle will just have to leave. It hurts, but it’s the only way we can move everyone so quickly at such an incredible price.

Want to track your vehicle while you wait? In the app, zoom out from your pick-up spot or click the small compass icon in the bottom right, and you’ll be able to follow the vehicle on the map as it approaches.

How do I know when my Via will arrive?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

After you set your Pickup and Drop-off in the app, we'll give you an estimated time until your Via arrives. When your car is 2 minutes away, we'll send you a text message to let you know that your ride is getting close. When your car arrives, we'll send you another text to let you know!

How much does a ride cost?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

The cost of your Via ride will depend on a few factors

The easiest way to ride with Via is by using the ViaPass. For those riding without a ViaPass, our pricing is described below:

New York Users (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Airport Service):
Your fare will be based on how far you go, when you ride, and the number of +1s in your party. Our always-affordable fares start at less than $5 for shorter rides. Most importantly, you’ll always see a guaranteed, low price for your ride – just check your app before you book. Cancellations and No Shows are charged a $3 fee. This pricing applies to standard shared Via rides, ViaExpressPrivate Rides, and airport rides

Note: Pricing not applicable to Shared Taxi. There are no surcharges for +1s on Private Rides, however if you’re traveling with a large group of 5 or more that requires a larger vehicle, you may be charged a bit extra. NY State Sales tax applies to all rides paid for with pre-purchased ride credit or those charged directly to your credit card on file. Fares are subject to applicable tolls - the cost of tolls will be distributed between the booking parties on board.

Can I request a specific time for my pick up?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.
Nope. Via operates on-demand only. Just book a ride a few minutes before you need to leave, and we’ll connect you with a vehicle in real-time.

What do Via vehicles look like?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

The best way to identify your Via-cle is by checking the license plate number displayed in your app and in the notifications you receive from us.

Just check to make sure the license plate number matches and you're all set to board!

How do I know which car is mine?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

When you book your Via, we'll list the information about the car coming to pick you up directly in the ride screen. This will include the license plate number, the sign number that the Via will be displaying, as well as the type of car.

When the Via-cle is approaching, we'll send you a quick reminder text with this information (as well as the pick up spot). Once the vehicle has arrived, you'll receive another text and a "Your Via is here" notice in your app.

Via Pro Tip: It's a crowded sea of Via-cles out there, so make sure you check that you're getting into the right car!

How do I pay for a ride?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

The best way to pay for Via is to buy Ride Credit or a ViaPass in the app. Before you ride, head to the app "Menu" and "Ride Credit," and select how much you'd like to buy. Each time you take a ride, we'll simply deduct the cost of your ride from your remaining credit. If you have less credit remaining than a full ride fare, we'll deduct any remaining credit and charge the rest of the fare directly to your card on file. You can also enable our auto-refill feature and ensure your credit is topped up when you're running low! Simply move the toggle at the bottom of the "Ride Credit" page in the app to the ON position. Each time your balance falls below $10, this authorizes the automatic purchase of Ride Credit in the amount of your most recent Ride Credit purchase

SC_HOW_DO_I_PAY.jpg

You can also purchase a ViaPass under "Menu" - "ViaPass" in the app.

SC_VIAPASS_OPTIONS.jpg

We also accept Google Pay for payment. We do not accept cash payment, PayPal, or pre-paid debit cards.

Additionally, if you have a really great ride please let us know by rating your driver and leaving feedback in the app, or sending us a note about what made him or her great. We take these comments into consideration when determining our Driver of the Week and our weekly Customer Service awards.

Note: The tip will be calculated based on the ride's total cost, minus tolls. For ViaPass riders, the tip will be calculated based on the potential total cost sans subscription. Tips are not taxed. Tips are non-refundable.

How do I cancel a ride?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

After a ride has been booked, you can cancel it by selecting the "Cancel Ride" option, at the bottom of your phone screen.

Please note that sometimes the "Cancel Ride" button will be hidden on the screen in order to give you more space to view the map. If this is the case, you can find the button again by pressing the grey line on the bottom of your screen just above the vehicle license plate number and description.

Drag_up_to_cancel.PNG       Cancel_Button.PNG

Our policy is that for any rides cancelled more than 1 minute after booking Via reserves the right to charge a $3 cancellation fee. This is due to the fact that as soon as a request enters the system, the car assigned will be rerouted to accommodate the pick up, so it can end up adding a slight detour to not just the driver but also the existing passengers in the vehicle. However, if a cancellation occurs because the current ETA is more than 5 minutes greater than the original ETA that was quoted at the time of booking, the system will automatically waive the cancellation fee as we understand that in these situations our members need to be able to make the most informed decision about their ride. We are also happy to waive the cancellation fee in the event of an emergency or an unforeseen situation.

How do I book for multiple people?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Our app currently supports booking a ride for up to 6 people in NYC (and up to 4 people in Chicago and D.C.). When setting your pickup or drop-off location in the app, just tap the - or + button near the top of the screen to indicate how many people are with you (e.g., if traveling with two friends, choose "+2"). You can also tap the "1 Passenger" tab above the place pins to add riders.

You can read more about pricing for extra riders here. Please note, there are no additional costs for +1s on private rides, however if you’re traveling with a large group of 5 or more (possible in NYC only) that requires a larger vehicle, you may be charged a bit extra.

(Note: our app does not currently support different drop-offs for riders traveling together, so just make sure you're all going to the same place!)

What if I'm late - will the driver wait for me?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Via is a shared service, so to keep things fair to the members already on board, we'll have to keep your car moving. Our drivers will wait 60 seconds, at which point we'll try to get in touch with you, but if after a minute you're not at the car, we'll have to move on and you may be assessed a $3  "No Show" fee .

If you're waiting at your pick up location and can't find your car, don't panic! Give your driver a call using the green phone icon in the app, or send a quick chat by clicking "Get Help" here: https://via.app.link (you may need to update your app). We'll make sure to get you on board!

Do I have to pay sales tax?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Yep. Via is a team of law-abiding citizens, and we’re required by law to collect local sales tax where applicable. Per the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, we are also required to charge taxes on tolls and remit them to New York State. We do not generate any profits on these taxes which are 100% passed to the State of New York.

Note: Interstate rides to/from Newark International Airport are not charged any tax.

Airport Service in NYC

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Via services trips to, from, and between LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy, and Newark International Airports in New York City.

Your fare will be based on how far you go, when you ride, and the number of +1s in your party. Most importantly, you’ll always see a guaranteed, low price for your ride – just check your app before you book.

Note: Fares are subject to applicable taxes and tolls. The cost of tolls will be distributed between the booking parties on board. ViaPass discounts may apply. There are no additional costs for +1s on private rides, however if you’re traveling with a large group of 5 or more that requires a larger vehicle, you may be charged a bit extra.

Via Airport Tips:

  • TSA lines are brutal: Be sure to leave plenty of travel time and factor in time for check in and security.
  • Moving to Guam with all your worldly possessions? Don’t forget baggage space is also shared in your Via. If you have a large number of items, we suggest booking a private ride.
  • Thought you were in Terminal 1, realized you’re actually in Terminal 3? No sweat! When you book from the airport you’ll get a text with your driver’s number so you can call to coordinate.

What is Shared Taxi?

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Our Shared Taxi feature gives you the option to book a Shared Taxi ride within the Via app (in addition to a regular Via). You’ll get a 40% discount off the metered fare for any portion of your trip that is shared.

Here’s how it works:

  • Request a ride through the Via app; if our algorithm finds a nearby available taxi, you’ll see a new booking option (in addition to your regular Via option): Shared Taxi. No more hailing cabs from the curb!
  • Just like any other Via, the Shared Taxi will pick you up on a nearby street corner.
  • Shared Taxi fares are calculated using the meter. If we find another party headed your way, we’ll seamlessly match you and you’ll save 40% on any shared portions of your trip!
  • If you ride does not end up being shared, you’ll be responsible for the full fare.
  • No cash necessary! You’ll pay and tip directly through the app. A default tip of $1 will apply to each Shared Taxi ride. You can adjust the tip amount any time before your drop-off.

We hope that with this partnership we can provide another option for our riders and give even more flexibility to how you travel, eventually providing the Shared Taxi service into areas not currently serviced by Via.

SC_-_Shared_Taxi.jpg

**“When your Shared Taxi ride is shared, you’ll receive a 40% discount off the TLC metered fare (including extras) for any shared portion of your trip. Booking fee will be reduced to $0.50 and state surcharges will be split evenly among shared bookings. You’ll also receive a 40% discount on the starting meter fare ($2.50), which will be charged to both parties on board. Rides with more than a +1 will not be eligible for Shared Taxi proposals. Shared Taxi trips are excluded from any ViaPass discount.

What is ViaExpress

Via is no longer providing rides in New York City. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

ViaExpress is designed for trips where a more direct route, especially one that follows the highway, can cut down your travel time significantly. You won’t see ViaExpress on every ride, but any time our wicked smart algorithm finds a ViaExpress route, we’ll show you that option in the app.

Pricing for a ViaExpress ride will follow our dynamic pricing model, and you'll always see the rate in your app before you book. ViaExpress is that sweet spot of fast and affordable rides!

Note: You may still make one other pick up and multiple drop-offs on ViaExpress rides (so there may be other riders already in your vehicle when you get in). To ride alone, you may book a private ride. ViaPass discounts may apply. ViaExpress is only available in NYC.
