What can we help you with?

What safety protocols has Via implemented?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

At Via, we're more focused than ever on making your next ride as safe and worry-free as possible. Here are a few of the important safety measures we’ve put in place:

Capacity is key: There’s a 2-passenger limit in all vehicles.
Mask up: That goes for riders and drivers alike. Without a face covering, our drivers may refuse the pickup.
Squeaky clean: We’re making EPA-approved cleaning supplies available to drivers for frequent wipedowns of the entire interior, with extra focus on surfaces we all touch. We’re also helping install plastic partitions between drivers and riders.
Feeling good: Before you book, confirm you’re not exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms with our in-app Wellness Check. Our drivers all do the same.

Do I have to wear a mask to take a Via?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Yes! Think of your mask as your favorite new accessory, the one you can’t leave the house without. Drivers can refuse the pickup if you don't have one.

Are shared rides available in my city?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

You bet! Shared rides are back in action.

Rest assured our safety protocols aren’t going anywhere:

  • Riders and drivers must wear masks. Without a face covering, your driver may refuse the pickup.
  • The number of riders in each vehicle will be capped, as will the number of +1s you can bring along.
  • We ask drivers to frequently clean their vehicles with EPA-approved products, and many vehicles contain plastic partitions between drivers and riders.
  • Windows will be open whenever possible, which means maximum ventilation.
  • Confirm you’re healthy with our in-app Wellness Check before hopping onboard.

How can I report concerns about COVID-19 protocol in my ride?

What is Via?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Via is an on-demand transit system that takes multiple passengers heading in the same direction and books them into a shared vehicle. Think of Via as a bus that’s smart enough to come when you want it and where you want it.

Using our app for iPhone or Android, you can select your pick up and drop off, and we’ll do the rest. As we are a corner-to-corner service, we’ll pick you up at a nearby corner and then drop you off within a couple blocks of your requested destination. This helps us ensure that even with multiple pick ups, trip times are comparable to a taxi.

We currently operate in New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C. 24/7.

Note: Via also offers a private ride option when available. Commuter benefits users are excluded from any private ride options.

How do referrals work at Via?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

We get it, you’ve become addicted to our sweet, affordable rides and you can’t wait to shout it from the rooftops for all to hear! Head to the app "Menu" and select "Free Rides."

From here you can learn your personal promo code and share it directly with friends via text message, email, and social media.

For every friend who signs up with your personal promo code and completes their first ride, you will receive $5 off your next 3 rides. It’s our way of saying thanks for spreading the Via love!

*Discounts may not be combined (only one discount may be applied per ride). Discounts will apply automatically and if the ride is worth less than $5, the remainder of the discount will be forfeited. Up to a maximum of 50 discounted rides per Via account may be outstanding at any given point in time; any additional ones will be forfeited. Via reserves the right to expire referral discounts at its discretion.

**Terms of Use: The intended purpose of Via referral codes is to be shared with friends, family, and on personal social media networks only with individuals known personally to the referring rider. Posting referral codes on commercial websites or coupon aggregator websites, including (but not limited to) RetailMeNot, Born to Coupon and CouponMate is strictly prohibited and will result in referral discounts being revoked at Via's discretion, and Via reserves the right to charge individuals for any rides paid for with discounts obtained through the creation of new accounts created by that same individual. Using a Via referral code to refer new accounts created by one same individual is also strictly prohibited and will also result in discounts being revoked at Via's discretion. Via reserves the right to prevent referrals from being completed, and to revoke any referral discounts obtained, when the Via system determines that accounts are likely to have been created by the same individual (e.g. if the system identifies certain overlapping data/information between the accounts). In addition, Via reserves the right to revoke any discounts likely to have been obtained for referrals of fraudulent accounts (including accounts set up with false personal or payment information), as determined by the Via system. Via reserves the right to change any codes which it determines have been compromised and remove individuals from its referral program at its discretion. Discounts may expire after a time period determined in Via's discretion. Via reserves the right to make system-wide changes to its referral and ride credit programs for any reason, including by altering the way in which any and all riders can earn or retain ride credits and the way in which ride credits can be redeemed.  Your continued use of the Via service means you accept any changes to Via's referral and/or ride credit programs.

All referral discounts have an expiry date of 30 days. This means that Via has the right to revoke any referral discounts that have not been used after more than 30 days.

Sweet! You’ve just booked a Via ride.

How much does a ride cost?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

The easiest way to ride with Via is by using the #LINKViaPass.

For those riding without a ViaPass, the fare on all rides in D.C. will be based on how far you go, when you ride, and the number of +1s in your party. Most importantly, you’ll always see a guaranteed, low price for your ride – just check your app before you book.

Cancellations and No Shows will be assessed a $3 fee.

Where do I wait for my Via?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

After you book a ride, the app will display the pick-up location where the vehicle will meet you.

As we are a corner-to-corner service, your actual pick-up spot may differ from where you asked to be picked up. It’s usually the corner closest to the pick-up location you requested, but you may be asked to walk a few blocks. Sometimes, the app will give you the address or business name at your pick-up spot to help you find it. Either way, the exact pick up location will always be displayed in the app.

Make sure you’re at the pick-up spot when the vehicle arrives! The app will count down the minutes to your vehicle’s arrival, and we’ll send you a text when the vehicle is two minutes away and again when it arrives. For assistance, you can send us a chat (by clicking "Get Help" here: https://via.app.link) and our Live Support Team will help. Additionally, you can contact the driver partner at any time directly through the app by pressing the small green phone icon located on the right, at the bottom of the screen.

Remember: Via is a community, and you’re sharing your ride with other members. Keeping them waiting results in stink-eyes, and if you’re more than 60 seconds late, the vehicle will just have to leave. It hurts, but it’s the only way we can move everyone so quickly at such an incredible price.

Want to track your vehicle while you wait? In the app, zoom out from your pick-up spot or click the small compass icon in the bottom right, and you’ll be able to follow the vehicle on the map as it approaches.

How do I know when my Via will arrive?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

After you set your Pickup and Drop-off in the app, we'll give you an estimated time until your Via arrives. When your car is 2 minutes away, we'll send you a text message to let you know that your ride is getting close. When your car arrives, we'll send you another text to let you know!

Can I request a specific time for my pickup?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.
Nope. Via operates on-demand only. Just book a ride a few minutes before you need to leave, and we’ll connect you with a vehicle in real-time.

What do Via vehicles look like?

Just check to make sure the license plate number matches and you're all set to board!

Why is my account inactive?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

In order to book a ride with Via, we require a valid and active credit card as the default payment method on your account. If you are receiving a message that your account is inactive, it means we weren't able to successfully validate the default credit card on your account. This means that your card issuing bank has declined your last transaction or our validation check. Major bummer!

Common reasons your bank might decline a transaction are:
- An incorrect credit card number or expiration date
- Insufficient funds in your account
- The bank's fraud rules blocked the transaction

Please double check your default card information is correct and up to date. If you are still having trouble, we recommend contacting your bank for more details.

Can my child ride with Via?

Via is no longer providing rides in Washington, DC. If you have any questions, please see our FAQ page here.

Children are welcome in Via-cles!

Washington D.C. law requires that any child up to 16 years of age must be in a properly installed child safety seat or restrained in a seat belt. Children under 8 years of age must be properly seated in an installed infant, convertible (toddler) or booster child seat, according to the manufacturer's instructions. While our vehicles are not equipped with car seats, we strongly encourage all parents to bring a car seat or booster seat where appropriate, as driver partners are required to transport infants in a carseat.

Please note that all children, regardless of age, must be marked as an additional passenger when booking your ride. This requirement is due to vehicle capacity restrictions based on number of passengers. Each rider must be at least 13 years old to ride alone in a Via.
